Nepali man arrested for scamming Nepalese students
The Australian police have arrested a Nepalese man for the crime of scamming countless Nepalese out of hundred of thousands of dollars. Bharat KC, a Nepalese man who lives in Melbourne, Victoria has been allegedly scamming the Nepalese diaspora for over 7 years. Bharat would scam gullible Nepalese students who wanted to send money to Nepal or get money from Nepal to Australia.
Mr. Bharat Kc would join various Facebook pages and groups to find people who wanted to bring or send money. He would then contact them through Facebook messenger and trick them into sending money to his accounts. Bharat used fake screenshots and bank cheques to trick his victims. According to our sources, he would scam a single person anywhere from a few hundreds of dollars to even up to $30,000.
On the 12th of June 2020, Mr. Bharat agreed to the leaders at the Nepalese Association of Victoria, NRN Victoria to pay half of what he scammed back to the victims within a month and the rest in installments on a later date. Bharat also agreed in writing to stop such activities. However, Nepalese students were still being scammed by him. The victims then lodged their complaint to the Nepali Consulate in Canberra, Victoria.
According to special sources, police arrested Bharat KC last Thursday. It is understood that he will be produced in court in November after completing the investigation into his arrest on fraud charges.
