“Knowledge is supreme power”. This statement has influenced me at every stage of my life.
Skills are gained through experience and every event in life can be seen as an opportunity that
widens one’s experience, but determination depends on personality. I am grateful to God,
parents, relatives and friends for they have been influential in molding my personality. My
ardent desire to acquire knowledge is the one and only reason for my decision to pursue higher
studies at graduate level. This would also enable me to get a wider perspective of Computer
Science.
My experiences as undergraduate student at XXXXX Institute of Technology & Science have
helped me a lot in shaping my self. The courses in Java, Database Management Systems,
Computer Networks, Principles of Programming Languages, Operating Systems, Advanced
Computer Organization, Embedded Systems and Artificial Intelligence that I have studied
during the undergraduate program have given me the necessary basic foundation. I have
gained valuable leadership and communication skills by participating in many extra curricular
activities. I am a member of the XSTE (XXX Society for Technical Education) and I have
learnt to work well with groups of people and coordinated their efforts to reach a common
goal.

I am willing to pursue a career in research in Software Engineering. This decision is based on
various reasons; the most interesting is that it would do justice to my technical skills and let
me achieve my goals. My initial interest in this field has been sparked by the book “Software
Engineering – A Practitioner’s approach” by Roger S. Pressman. In order to build successful
software we need discipline when it is designed and built, in other words we need an
engineering approach. Today Software Engineering has evolved from an obscure idea
practiced by a relatively small number of zealots to a legitimate engineering discipline. It is
recognized as a subject worthy of serious research, conscientious study, and tumultuous debate
tools, which have been adopted successfully across the broad spectrum of industry
applications.
I believe that your university is a great place to do my Master’s because of its undoubted
strengths in Software Engineering, in computer science in general. Working with the expert
faculty in the field of software engineering will enhance my knowledge and technical skills.
At your university I would like to get a thorough grounding in software engineering and its
related topics such as software process models, software engineering methods, and software
tools. The knowledge, experience and exposure, which I gain as a graduate student at your
institution, will be a strong foundation for my aim of doing research in my discipline as well
as to continue my sports and extracurricular activities and I will try my best to bring laurels to
your institution. There are two kinds of learning

“To learn to learn and to learn to think”
And I want to learn to think.
I now look forward to starting the next phase of my life at your esteemed university. I will be
able to move closer to my ultimate goal. An opportunity to work at your institution would be a
dream comes true for me. I am looking forward to getting this opportunity.
