I Anish , feel delighted to write a statement of purpose for my further study in
Australia as an international student to study master of environmental engineering at the
University of Wollongong.

Being born to Mr. Chandra and Mrs. Sushma in 10 April 1987,
and after completing my SLC (School Leaving Certificate) from VS School, Dhakuta in
the year 2004 with 77.25%. I enrolled in Hattisar Campus, Dharan for my Intermediate
education in Science stream, but for I was passionate to study my further education in
Engineering studies, I again attended Intermediate level in Engineering in Eastern Region
Campus, Dharan with Diploma in Computer Engineering and obtained 77.93% in the year
2010, then for my further studies I took Bachelor in Agricultural Engineering in Eastern
Region Campus, Dharan and completed it in 2015 with 79.11%. After completion of my
Bachelor studies I have been working voluntarily as Research Assistant at Agricultural
Engineering Division (AED), at Nepal Agricultural Research Council (NARC). I also took IELTS test in 29 August 2015 and was able to score
overall 7.5.

Australia is considered as one of the top destination for International Education and its
education system and Universities are highly regarded around the world. There are highly
rated universities providing various study area of natural sciences and mathematics, life and
agricultural sciences, clinical medicine and pharmacy, and physics. An Australian university
are highly ranked than that of Nepal and provides updated practical skills and knowledge
with globally recognized academic credentials. I have known that there is multicultural and
friendly study environment for international students. So, for all these reasons I have chosen
Australia as my education destination for my further study.

The university of Wollongong is considered as one of the best institutions, which ranked 11th
in Australia and 243th in the world. The university has excellent academic, organized teaching
activities, best student service, facilities and provides academic support, and assistance and
scholarship. The university has built an international reputation for world-class research and
exceptional teaching quality. The university of Wollongong won various awards for highest
ranked university in New South Wales on QILT 2016, Graduate employability and so on.
UOW has a distinguished engineering research reputation and engineering of UOW is part of
eight associates, which, is top research facilities in Australia. That’s why I have decided to
pursue masters of environmental engineering at this university.

I have completed my four years bachelor degree in Agricultural Engineering from Institute of
Engineering Eastern Region Campus affiliated to Tribhuvan University, Nepal. Agricultural
Engineering is a multi-disciplinary course that includes farm machinery design, food and
bioprocess engineering, water resource engineering, renewable energy, rural engineering and
environmental studies. The curriculum includes environmental related courses like soil and
water conservation, climate change and adaptation measures, soil science, hydrology and
agricultural metrology, ground water development etc. so, I think the course I am applying
for is pursuable with my academic backgrounds.

Environmental engineering of this university focuses on environmental technologies and
management with key areas in water supply, wastewater treatment, cleaner production and
waste management, site remediation, air and noise pollution control, sustainable energy and
water resources. So this course will help me in widening the knowledge and capacity to
design stimulation, analyse and assess environmental risks and manage environmental
aspects of various Agriculture farms, industries, and water resources. Environmental
Engineering scope is being increasing day by day, as environmental clearance has been an
important factor, in success of any industrial project companies, and has started hiring
environmental engineering professionals to access the damage to ecosystem and ways to
replenish it. So, I have chosen to study environmental engineering.

During my work as research assistant in AED, NARC I got various oppurtunities to attend
seminar, presentation and discussion with many scientist from around the globe. That always
helped me to take up my future studies plan. Every where in the programs I would find out
conclusion striking environmental issues and the way to tackle and minimize them. All these
stages helped me find my passion to learn more about environmental factors and when I
knew environmental engineering knowledge is essential for me, I have researched about this
course in my country. I found that curriculum of this course was not updated and there are not
sufficient labs for research and practicals. After that, I started to research overseas
universities which provide a master of environmental engineering and found the University of
Wollongong. Environmental Engineering of UOW has a world class reputation for excellence
in research innovative approaches to teaching, learning, and laboratories and workshop
facilities that are best among other universities. The fee of the course is a reasonable and
affordable as compared with others. So, I have decided that the University of Wollongong is
right for me to pursue a master of environmental engineering.

I have found agriculture as an inter-disciplinary subject closely in relation with the
environment. Nowadays, unsustainable farming and industrial agricultural practices are
causing negative impacts on the environment like land conservation and habitat loss,
excessive water consumption, soil erosion and degradation, pollution, climate change and so
on. This all are surely affecting the whole environment around the world. So the knowledge
of environmental aspects is very much significant especially for those who are trying to
establish a career in the field of agriculture as well as to work in agricultural research sector
that requires a sound and efficient knowledge of agriculture as well as environmental balance
and management. For this reason, I believe that the course I am applying for will be very
helpful to develop my knowledge in the sector. So I am very keen in pursuing a master of
environmental engineering in your esteemed institution.

This master program includes environmental technologies and management which deliver
expert skills and applied competencies required for the professional engineer. This master
program will definitely help me to build strong approach on environmental technologies and
management which will assist me to build any career in research field in the agriculture
sector, various environment or agricultural organizations of Nepal. Environmental
Engineering has immense scope in Nepal for professionals who are qualified in chemical,
biological, thermal, radioactive, mechanical or even agricultural engineering as
environmental engineering is a diverse field and requires people from diverse background.
Moreover, professionals from process engineering, environmental chemistry, water and
sewage treatment, waste reduction management, pollution prevention, farm mechanization
etc. are required in large numbers. Job prospects for professionals with qualification in
environmental engineering are bright in research centres, NGOs and various governmental
departments working towards green development.

I have a sound financial background. We already have saving in SBI which I will be using to
finance my studies in Australia. My father is senior Instructor in Eastern Regional
Engineering Campus. He also is a guest lecturer at many colleges. We have other income
sources like House rent and my sister’s earning who is a physiotherapist practitioner. Over
all we have good financial standing and it will not be a problem for my family to finance my
education in Australia. I have attached all my financial documents and other important papers
with the visa application.

Therefore, I look forward to be granted visa for my further study in master of environmental
engineering in Australia at the University of Wollongong.
