Computers are an integral part of today’s world and are principally being used in every field. I came toe-to-toe with a computer for the first time in my Fourth Standard. Since that moment I wanted to learn more about Computers and be the best in that field. With a keen interest in computers since childhood and established dreams of being the best, I pursued my undergraduate education in Computer Science and Engineering from Anna University, India. This helped me to excel in programming stream. However, I wanted to improve myself in this field by further digging into this field. I wanted to learn how to manage the technology to effectively produce output. To achieve this goal, I will need further education in a field that combines Information Technology with management, and I think the Information Technology (Professional) program at Deakin University will be a good fit for my academic and professional ambition, especially given that they offer a major in IT Strategy and Management.
I completed my lower secondary education in Munal Academy, a local boarding school in my hometown, in 2010, securing 82%. Then I moved to Kathmandu, to pursue further studies. I was fortunate enough to secure admission at Prasadi Academy, one of the most competitive high schools in the nation, and completed my higher secondary education in Science stream from there in 2010, securing 72%. With an ambition of getting practical knowledge in Computer Engineering, I chose to study in India since universities in there provide a more thorough and practical education at a price comparable to those in Nepal. Angel College of Engineering and Technology, the institution where I pursued my undergraduate education in Computer Science and Engineering, helped me move a step closer towards my dream. Besides getting 7.73 CGPA out of 10 in 2016, I have participated in various co-curricular activities during my time at college. My paper titled “Automated Code Generation” has been published in Discovery, an international science journal. I have presented many papers in symposiums and national conferences. Besides, I was the secretary of various clubs like Coding Club, FOSS club and English club during my college. For all my achievements and dedication to the college and department, I was awarded as the Best Outgoing Student in the department of Computer Science and Engineering. After my studies, I returned to Nepal and worked as an IT Consultant and Public Relations Manager at Kathmandu Infosys Educational Consultancy from July 10, 2016 to May 19, 2017. I handled all the IT related works which includes Internal Routing, Network Management, Website Development and Handling, Graphic Designing, etc. Furthermore, I also looked after new clients in the organization and lessoned in maintaining a healthy relationship with other agents and public. I’ve worked for digital marketing of the company and contributed in maintaining a good presence over the internet. To gain more exposure and intensify my area of specialization, I intended to pursue studying abroad and thus gave my TOEFL exam in February 18, 2017 and got a score of 93.
Australia is a destination for every dreamer. It is for everyone who dreams to get quality education and have a healthy lifestyle. Considering the fact that it is ranked one of the top livable places in the world and third-top destination for abroad education, I definitely would love the luxury and advantages of studying in Australia. The important aspects that made me choose Australia are its world class education, multicultural society, and globally recognized degree programs. Being a student of Computer Science, a country like Australia can provide me enhanced experience and better hands-on-training with the latest technologies. Similarly, Australia has produced a large number of Nobel Prize winners which has significantly improved the limelight for its education. The fact that it as a country hosts 15 Nobel laureates proves that education and research in Australia is encouraged more. Furthermore, its Tuition Protection Service (TPS) under the ESOS Act will help students like me to safeguard against any risks. The health insurance opportunity (OSHC) in Australia also provides safety against any health issues. It offers Post Study Work opportunity for international student which is a good opportunity to have an international working experience. Australia, being an English speaking nation, is a home to students from various countries. This will provide me better exposure and sharing ideas with a varied audience. Living standard in Australia is highest compared to other destinations while the living expenses are comparatively lower. Australia’s moderate climate also factored in my decision since favorable climate will greatly help me adjust to a new country. In addition, getting an Australian degree will open the door of opportunity for getting involved with several brands and people. Furthermore, this will also provide me an opportunity to develop my English speaking skills and shine out against the odds.
Considering that Nepal is a developing country, the education system here is not fully developed yet. There are some notable universities here for higher education, but they do not provide the similar course as core subject (Information Technology – Professional) with IT Strategy and Management as specialization. Though there is no VISA requirement to study in India, they do lack more the serenity and crucial touch when it comes to the real-time and updated course syllabus. Although other countries like USA and UK are ranked well for abroad study, factors like crime rates and cost of living are too high in those countries. The former destination has too high tuition fees compared to Australia while the latter shows a lot of frequents changes in the VISA policy. Similarly, I did not choose European destinations as their first language is not English and the crime rates in those areas are too high. Australia is thus an ideal place for me due to it promising recognition and opportunities.
I chose Melbourne out of all other cities like Sydney and Brisbane and the primary reason behind this is because this city has been indexed at first position for most livable city in the world for the 6th time in a row by Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) considering several factors like health care, infrastructure, education, culture, safety, etc. Safety and education were the most important the most important factors in this categorization. It has an index of 100/100 in Education according to EIU. It is one of the major economic hub of Australia and this is a reason why the city is so busy yet serene. Melbourne is a city of equal opportunities, no matter from which place we are from. This makes the city a group of multicultural, multiethnic and multilinguistic people. Furthermore, Melbourne hosts some of the top ranked universities in the world and offers a great variety of career opportunities that would allow me to cover some of my pocket money as well.
Before applying to Deakin University for my further education, I have researched other universities like La Trobe University, Swinburne University, and Central Queensland University. The first thing that I looked into those universities is that if they were offering a specialization in IT Strategy and Management. However, I could not find the specialization in those universities. Besides this, I found Deakin having a better student community and its collaborated community engagement with local organizations of Melbourne like Whitehorse City Council, Relief Network and Business Group astonished me. After doing my research on all these universities to pursue my further education, I found Deakin University to be best suited for me. Deakin University is one of the top institutions in Australia. It is ranked 355th in the world by QS World University ranking and 251st by THE ranking. Furthermore, Deakin is ranked 7th in University under 50 years old and 14th top university in Australia. Importantly, this university provides the course, Master of Information Technology (Profession) with specialization in IT Strategy and Management, which I intend to study. Furthermore, this course is also accredited by Australian Computer Society (ACS) which means that Deakin delivers quality education in this field. This university has an excellent student to staff ratio of 31.1 which means that student gets more exposure with the staffs. Out of 34000+ students, 17% of the students are international students which make it an epitome of students from various ethnicity and values. Getting a degree from Deakin University will allow me not only for my academic growth, but it will also make me technically sound and competitive to compete in this dynamic industry.
I believe that any information technology field requires a channeling to obtain the effective output out of it. The proper management of the technologies that an engineer or IT Specialist learns is a must when it comes to processing of input into the output. This is a reason why I want to study Information Technology (Professional) with specialization in IT Strategy and Management. With this as my major, I will be able to connect the dots between effective technology and efficient management. This will help me to understand how to properly channel all the techniques I’ve learnt to get a better result. My specialization in subjects like eBusiness strategies, managing innovation, services management and business requirement analysis will help me to properly understand the jargons of this field. This will allow me to develop my technical and business skills to their fullest. The specialization in IT Strategy and Management within this course will help me become an IT strategist, which in turn will help me guide the techniques I learn in Engineering and IT to produce effective output in an industrial scale. The course I am taking, Master of Information Technology (Professional), will have total credit points of 16. It will run for duration of 2 years with total tuition fees of AUD 61,040. I’ve also received a meritorious scholarship of 25% from Deakin University, which means that I’ll have a grant of AUD 15,260 over my entire course.
After finishing my course, I intend to do my Post Study Work (PSW). This will help me gain some helpful experience in a professional environment. As it is a developing country with a small but growing business sector, Nepal needs a lot of business minded professionals to help develop its business and industry sectors. Doing my specialization in IT Strategy and Management and gaining valuable practical skills in a developed country like Australia, I can properly focus on using the skills I have learnt in abroad to my country. After my return in Nepal, I will be working in some big IT companies in Nepal like NTC, NCELL, Sprout Technologies, Leapfrog Technology, Braindigit and Yomari. Getting an international degree will give me a benefit in getting placed in these companies and I will be having a good remuneration as well. I will be working as a Digital marketer or Business analyst and getting 50,000 NPR a month will be definitely a good start. However, in long term, I intend to open my own company in my nation and contribute to the development of Nepal. Considering that not a single company falls under FORTUNE 2000 list, I would like to be the initiator for my country. Currently there are a very few large scale private ventures in Nepal and thus I would like to contribute to my country by managing a large IT firm in future. Furthermore, I am the single son of my parents and I intend to return to them after my studies. The only motive of me studying abroad is to gain sufficient knowledge and experiences so that I can use them here in Nepal.
My parents are going to fund my studies. My father works as an office helper and my mother works as a trainer in a governmental organization. My father and mother has an annual income of Rs. 234,511 and Rs. 275,259 respectively. Furthermore, my sister is working as an accountant and she will also assist in sponsoring my tuition and living fees. She has an income of Rs. 360,000 an year. My late grandfather was an Indian army and we withdraw a pension of around Rs. 300,608 every year. Besides that, we have a good area of land being leased and house being rented, receiving a total of Rs. 900,000 annually. To cover my tuition fees of first year and living expenses, we have a bank balance of Rs. 4,603,672 i.e. AUD 58,274.33. Being the only son of my parent, I have an emotional tie-up with them and I will be returning to Nepal to support them.
I am well aware of the VISA conditions during my stay at Australia. I must remain enrolled in a registered course and will be allowed to work only 40 hours a fortnight. I will have to present my health insurance enough to cover my stay at Australia. Furthermore, I will have to provide the address I will be living at Australia to my education provider within 7 days of arrival in Australia. I’ll also have to provide any address change information to the education provider. I also should have good academic growth while studying in Australia. I am well aware that my subclass 500 VISA will be solely for studying purpose.
I look forward to do my Masters of Information Technology (Professional) from Deakin University at Australia.
Looking for your positive consideration,
Sincerely,
Bishal
